Signposting workshop in Morocco, sep. 06
THE MOROCCAN GR-1 FOOTPATH ADVANCES TOWARDS THE DESERT
A new footpaths’ signposting workshop has been carried out in Morocco during the third week of September. This workshop follows on from events celebrated jointly in Tarifa, Ceuta and Tétouan at the end of April 2006.
The purpose of these events was the linking of the European long-distance footpath E4 (Crete-Ceuta) with the new African continental footpath started between Ceuta and Tétouan and which travels through the El Hawz massif.
This workshop, in which ten young people from the regions of Tétouan and the Middle and High Atlas have participated, took place in Azrou, in the heart of the Middle Atlas. The training has been possible thanks to the support provided by the FRMSM (Fédération Royale Marocaine de Ski et Montagne), an affiliated member of the ERA (European Rambler´s Association).
With this aim, the workshops supervised by Juan Mari Feliu, footpaths expert of the FEDME and vice-president of the ERA (European Rambler´s Association), left for the first time the red and white markers of a GR in the Middle Atlas. The markers have been placed along the main axis of the A1 (Africa) footpath as it passes through Morocco. The start of this new section of the A1 footpath through the massifs of the Atlas will be developed by the local club of Azrou. Next year a new workshop will take place in Marrakech to continue this route through the High Atlas towards the edges of the Sahara

EL SENDERO GR 1 DE MARRUECOS AVANZA HACIA EL DESIERTO
Tras los eventos celebrados conjuntamente en Tarifa, Ceuta y Tetuán a finales del pasado mes de Abril de 2006 con motivo del enlace del sendero europeo E4 (Creta-Ceuta) con el nuevo sendero continental africano iniciado entre Ceuta y Tetuán por el macizo de El Hawz, se ha realizado durante la tercera semana de septiembre un nuevo cursillo de señalización de senderos en Marruecos. Este cursillo, en el que han participado diez jóvenes de las regiones de Tetuán y del Medio y Alto Atlas, ha tenido lugar en Azrou, en el corazón del Medio Atlas. El cursillo ha sido posible gracias al apoyo mostrado por la FRMSM (Féderation Royale Marocaine Ski et Montagne), miembro asociado de la ERA (European Rambler’s Association)
Con este motivo, las prácticas, que han sido supervisadas por Juan Mari Feliu, técnico en senderos de la FEDME y Vicepresidente de la ERA (European Rambler’s Association), dejaron por vez primera las señales blancas y rojas de un GR en el Medio Atlas. Las señales han sido marcadas por el eje principal del sendero A1 (Africa) a su paso por Marruecos. El comienzo de esta nueva sección del sendero A1 por los macizos del Atlas será desarrollo por el club local de Azrou. El próximo año tendrá lugar un nuevo cursillo en Marrakech para impulsar este recorrido por el Alto Atlas en dirección a los bordes del desierto del Sahara.
