Europe and Africa united by the historical intercontinental path.

In regards to the beginning of the Eurando 2006, a number of events have been celebrated in both sides of the Moroccan border to commemorate the connection of the E4 (GR7) path with the A1 (GR 1 from Morocco).

The E4, which has its oriental extreme in the island of Cyprus and goes along the Balkans, the Alps, and from the south of France crosses Spain nearby the Mediterranean coast, went all the way to Tarifa in the 2001 Eurando

After all these years, FEDME as well as the Andalusian Federation, the recently created Ceutan Federation, the Moroccan FRMSM and the ADEMN from Tetuan were working together on the project of making real the union of the two continents. On the first place by creating a PR path network in the city of Ceuta and making the crossing of the E4 path as far as the Moroccan border possible.

 

Finally after many projects and negotiations trying to introduce trekking in Morocco the achievements have come trough with the inaugural acts which took place on the 21st and 22nd of May in Tarifa, Ceuta and Martil-Tetuan with the presence of the maximun local and federation authorities from FEDME, Andalusia, Murcia and Ceuta.

This triple act has constituted a historiacal event in the trekking long live history and opens new possibilites to help the rural developent of the nearby countries of the European continent being Morocco the fist one this time.

The acts started on the 21st of May in Tarifa with an openning act in the Cultural Home and in the avenue which takes to the marine station. A panel was unveiled with the 0 point of the E4 path in the European continent. At the same time, the map of the last section of this path belonging to the provence of Cadiz (Puerto del Correo – Tarifa) was also presented.

On the 22nd, an opening under way march took place to inagurate the PR of the Hacho mountain starting in the African square of Ceuta and finishing in the same place. On this act the president of the city Juan Vivas was there as well as the FEDME president Joan Garrigos and Andalusian, Murcian and Ceutan federations.

On the afternoon of the same day, in the city of Martil-Tetuan the third act took place in the provence of Morocco to inagurate the GR1 of Morocco A1 which goes along for more than a hundred kilometres along the El Hawz mountains in the northern side of the Rif.

The acts were celebrated in the cultural home of "Al Andalus" and were leaded by the governor of the region, the city mayor and the presidents of FRMSM, ADEMN and the rural development and sportive associations from Morocco and the Spanish federations listed before.
