The Republic of Macedonia is a small country situated in the southern part of the Balkan Peninsula. It abounds in natural beauties and rarities. Many have named it “The Pearl of the Balkans”. Attractive lakes and mountains are distinctive feature of the country. The tourist resorts are located around the three lakes of Ohrid, Prespa and Dojran. The three national parks: Mavrovo, Pelister and Galicica offer good conditions for pleasant recreation, ski sports and mountaineering with good network of mountain paths.
The climate is moderate continental (the north part) and mediterranean (the south part).
The cultural map is exceptionally rich and varied. The cultural heritage is testified by valuable sites, large number of churches and monasteries, as well as by mosques, baths, caravanserais etc.
National folklore and traditional arts and crafts are still cherished. The old town and village architecture is very attractive.
