There are trails in the northern part of the country, in the province of Minho with its national park Peneda-Geres. There are also trails in the area close to Lisbon – Estoril, Sintra, Cascais and in the Algarve area. There exist guidebooks in English and German with maps. Try to buy them in bookstores in your home country.
The mountains on Madeira are equipped with attractive trails that are described in guidebooks in English and German.
Maps at a scale of 1:50 000 are available from the Instituto Geografico.
