Help mark the 50km Southern Route of the Arctic Circle Trail

6 LOCAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

ERA has received the below request, which is hereby announced here. ERA is not part of the project. Find contact details at the bottom of the text.

In mid-July, we will take 5-6 days to place navigation poles (like those used to mark ski trails) along this alternate route that allows hikers to avoid the ATV track between Kangerluarsuk Tulleq to Eqalugaarniarfik.

Volunteers must:

  • Be available from around the 15 July for 6 days (exact date TBD by group)
  • Be in good physical shape – this is a more challenging route than the existing Arctic Circle Trail
  • Be self-sufficient – you will need to provide and carry all your hiking and camping gear
  • Be willing to carry up to 2kg of extra equipment. This will only be for short stretches. We have cached the poles along the route and will pick them up as we go
  • Be willing to commit to the expedition before the end of March 2024

This trail crew will be led by Destination Arctic Circle’s trails manager, Lisa Germany, who finalized the route in 2023. It will likely also be joined by a representative from the US National Parks service.
