Slovakia

Some of the more interesting areas in Slovakia for walking are in mountain areas. The E3 passes along the main ridge of Malá Fatra Mountains. Nizke Tatry Mountains has a highest peak of 2.043 meters. Cesta hrdinov SNP on the ridge is at the same time the E-path E8. Vysoke Tatry Mountains (High Tatras) have a length of  70 km and have high peaks of which the highest is 2.655 meters. Walking is also popular in Slovensky raj (Slovak Paradise) with rocks, karst and dolomites. In general accommodation has to be sought at the foot of the mountains.

Guidebooks exist in English and German. Maps exist in 1:50 000 and 1:100 000. Several maps have text in English or German. They can be ordered from Vojenský kartografický ústav and also be bought in book stores and information centers.
